In what was the Alcazar hotel, which later became City Hall, which then later became the Lightner Museum:

This is now a restaurant, but it was at the time the Alcazar Hotel was built, the largest indoor swimming pool.  The floor still slants as the shallow end becomes the deep end!  Olympian and “Tarzan” Johnny Weissmuller jumped off the third floor into the pool!

Then we took the Whetstone Chocolate Factory tour.

Loved the signs!

Next was the wine tasting tour!

Some of their barrels are used from the Jack Daniels distillery!  Go back to November 2nd for that tour!

“The Three Sisters” were Flagler’s railroad’s train station, now are dorms for Flagler College.

This was the lobby of the Ponce de Leon Hotel, now is part of Flagler College.

And as we walked back to the marina...

The Wells Fargo Building, which is and will remain the tallest building in St. Augustine.

The Monument to the fallen Confederate soldiers.

Front courtyard of the former hotel.

Still to see:  The Lightner Museum, the Flagler College tour, the Castillo de San Marcos fort, the St. Augustine Lighthouse, and more if time!

May 1, Wednesday

St. Augustine

Went by a small park in the Historical Center as we walked to Flagler College.

The Flagler College tour is really a tour of what was Flagler’s Ponce de Leon Hotel.  The hotel was quite opulent!  The fountain has lions on the handle (Ponce de “Leon”), there are 12 frogs, one for each month, is a handle of a sword driven into the ground, and is also a sundial.
