Hoppies to Mississippi Anchorage Mile 102.4

A foggy morning at Hoppies

Just when the Mississippi is looking beautiful, it gets ugly again.

WHITE pelicans!

Water level is so low, it is many feet below the lowest mark on the bridge abutment.

Illinois State Prison -- Much, much larger than the photo shows.

We rafted 5 boats behind a wing dam on the Mississippi tonight.  These are our views for the night.

This tow came by; it has 3 barges across, 6 long; they get even bigger.

Katherine and Kermit on Good Karma took Rusty for a swim and frolic in the sand.

October 1, Monday

Mississippi River Anchorage Mile 121.2 to Angelo Towhead Anchorage

Not many pictures today, as it was cold, windy, rainy, and just plain a nasty day!

Colorful Army Corps of Engineer barge

Tower Rock

Left Bank, Right Bank, same place, quite different.

Cape Girardeau, MO, and its sea wall

Attractive bridge at Cape Girardeau

Mississippi River has very strong and constant currents.

Kayakers!

White pelicans seem to huddle together in the poor weather.

October 2, Tuesday

Angelo Towhead to Cumberland Towhead Anchorage

It was a cold windy day, against the current.  The Ohio River was about as unpicturesque as the Mississippi.  We picked up Bill and Chris on Catmandu today.  At the Cumberland towhead, all 6 boats rafted.
